French Fine Linen Dowry Sheet, Hand Embroidery & Drawen Thread Work,  Jours Monogram  DN or ND

This vintage French Fine Linen sheet has exquisite embroidery & magnificent Hand Drawn Thread Work (Ladder Work).

The Embroidery consists of Flowers, separated by Ladder Work, and divided in the centre by a beautiful Monogram.

On closer inspection of the monogram, I believe it is either ND or DN. The D is at an angle facing the right corner and the N is laced through the D, facing the opposite direction. It measures 10 1/2" tall x 7 1/4" wide.

Each set of Flowers has a double row of Ladder Work dividing it from the next set. The two corners have a more elaborate bouquet of Flowers and Dots that turn to follow more Ladder Work and a Spray of Flowers part way down each side.

The fine linen sheet is decorated with exquisite hand embroidery which must have taken an experienced needlewoman many hours to complete.

The pictures really do not do it justice. Fabulous sheets of this quality rarely come on the market.

It would make a wonderful present for any linen collector.


The linen is white in colour.

The fabric is in excellent condition and does not appear to have been used much, if at all.

I have laundered it.

Any discolouration or wear is commensurate with age and storage.
